A few videos sent my way via Mr. Array. Note a couple of these are just still images for the audio demo. The ARP Little bother in the first vid is not what you are hearing; it's the ATC-1 that you hear.
Bach Little Prelude BWV 934
"Ok, the last one. I apologize for the mistakes, but that's what I could record while I'm at home recovering from a cold. I played a Studio Electronics ATC-1 from the CME UF6, with Lexicon PCM-60 reverb, Echo indigo I/O, Cubase, iSight with iMovieHD."
Playng with a monophonic Synth
YouTubes via marcelojohann. I actually found this one checking out the rest of his videos and thought I'd include it. Be sure to check out the rest.
"This is a music of my own, actually a simple theme that I like and keep improvising over, but it has no defined begin, ending or structure. Here I'm playing it on a monophonic synth, interleaving notes and using a lot of reverb to give them sustain..."
Studio Electronics SE-1
YouTube via chriszanf.
"This is my SE-1. Im just messing about with a simple bassline and 1 bar of drums. There was only 1 other video of an SE-1 and that was broken/munted but still played. [its in the 'related' below] Ill post more later as Ive just got my studio together finally!!"

i used to have 2 studio electronics atc-1s. i used them mainly to convert midi for my sh-101s.
ReplyDeleteanyway, ive heard so many songs that blatantly use the presets (as in holding the root note for a whole measure every fourth measure).
it's a wierd circumstance, it's a great synth but the crazy presets are always abused by shitty producers.
blarrrnnnnn! blarrrnnn! blarrrnnnn!
I'm the author of the first audio/video where I play the ATC-1. Just to highlight that the purpose of the tests was to demo how you can play complete compositions with bass and melody in a monophonic synth. While I am using the pressets (sorry Convoythecat), I am trying to explore the idea that these instruments are good for complex performances, like in classical concerts, and not only that "regular" solo stuff...

marcelo, i was in no way critisizing your use of the synth. i was just stating that there is a lot of producers out there that use the atc-1 like an analog shotgun. i just put it out there thinking maybe some other se atc-1 users noticed this.
ReplyDeletea lot of them are project or remix producers that are payed pretty well. exploring your synth and sharing is totally different.
thank you and screw them
Thanx, Convoy! I got that. And I was trying to add that, as important as exploring different sounds is to treat the synth as a musical instrument, which I think is rather rare. I fully agree with you, people use synth as a shotgun, and even the best keyboardists usually concentrate in solo/baseline concepts instead of treating a synth like, say, a violin, exploring subtle and expressive melodies...
