Tenori-on Website is Up

Title link takes you there.

"Tenori-on finally has its own website. I e-mailed a Yamaha UK rep and he said the site will have stuff on it starting next week. Yamaha is launching the product in the UK on Sept. 4. No word yet on price."

  2. In one interview I saw somewhere a few months back they said the target was around 500$, with the low value of the $ it could be 800 now

  4. Price is going to be everything on this one, I'd think.

  5. Yep, I agree. They will either price it at a nice low price and it will sell like hotcakes or they will overprice it and it will sizzle and fail. Its all on them at this point.

  6. I heard from a sort of privileged source it may be at around £200 in the uk. damn, this is going to be so good :D

  7. If that's true that should translate to about $350 in US dollars. I'd probably get one at that price.

  8. Anyone know if it can interface with a computer?

  9. I think someone mentioned that it had a MIDI port....

    Haha...I would hope so.

  11. This thing will not be cheap. I remember them saying that they put a motif soundset in it as well as a sampler and built in speakers (??who knows why??)

I wish they would have just made it a monome type controller at a reasonable price, but this thing will easily be $1000 or more in the US with all the stuff they decided to put in it.

The original estimate was 500UKP, but we all know that the original project prices are never right and they are always much higher when they hit the market. I would love to be surprised and see this thing hit the market at under $500 US, but I am almost positive it will be over $1000.

  12. Where do people keep on pulling these prices from? Honestly, the only reason why companies like Yamaha, etc. keep getting away with selling their stuff for such inflated prices is because people like this will somehow try and justify it to themselves.

The Yamaha MM6 MAPs for $600. Why in the world should the Tenori-On cost any more than that? If anything, it should be significantly less. Stop inflating the values of these products! How did it ever become acceptable to pay $600 for shoddy plastic construction?

  13. The price was pulled directly from the mouth of Peter Peck of Yamaha. Watch the video on sonic state. He clearly says that the price they were shooting for was 500UKP. Which means if the price has not increased at all (which almost never happens) that at the VERY LEAST it would be around $950 US dollars.

  14. I'm sorry, but that's horseshit. How do they justify those prices?

  15. I know what you are saying. 1K for this thing would be ridiculous. It was me that said earlier in the thread, it would have to be around $350 or less for me to consider it. The funny thing is, they probably could have done it for that price range too if they had not put all the other crap in there. I could care less about a motif soundset or built in speakers, I would just be using it as a midi controller anyway.

  16. Can I have a new form factor, design concept and pay dirt cheap prices for it?

Sure, hell why not, lets give it away...

£500 UKP probably translates to around £399 street - which aint too bad - its not yamahas fault that the US government see fit to devalue their currency - elect a new president and then you might be able to get cheaper imports.

  17. I don't see any major research costs in CLONING THE MONOME, but hey that's me.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hasn't Yamaha had this idea for longer than the Monome people? Yamaha first announced this in 2001 I believe.

  19. hey you can find out a lot more about this at www.last.fm/group/tenori-on

  20. "elect a new president" we fucking tried, you seem to think we live in a democracy. WE DON’T!

i don't want a shitty sound set, or a speaker (WTF). a half ass samplers is alright but i really just want the controller and thats only worth about $199 to me, so when these over produced toys fail i'll be there to snatch one up dirt cheap.

  21. "its not yamahas fault that the US government see fit to devalue their currency - elect a new president and then you might be able to get cheaper imports"

Anon, you're an idiot! Nobody here has even mentioned the "devalued currency" OR the president. They simply mentioned the actual current exchange rate.

You are missing the point entirely, regardless of what the current US exchange rate is, even at 399UKP this thing is a rip off! It is a monome clone with shitty built in speakers and a crappy rompler soundset. There is no way to justify the high price of this thing.

Don't try to turn this into a political debate just because you do not like the US president. It is about this thing being overpriced for what it is, plain and simple.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well okay, perhaps the political shot was a cheap one, but I think many US consumers are unaware that imported goods will be more expensive? Someone else pointed out that this has been in development for at least five years, so I think it probably trumps the monome in terms of inception.

I'm sure the monome is a great piece of kit too, but it's not quite the same. I mean isnt it the same as someone bringing out a new synth with subtractive engine and a keyboard?

  23. This device is not for the poor.

The poor should eat cakes, made in the shape of the Tenori.

The rich will dance waltzes with their Tenori's, while at the same time, eating double-decker Tenori shaped cakes made with the most exotic butters of Europe.

    ReplyDelete
  24. well, I sure hope the price won't be a turnori-off hehe
