x0xchild - Roland Drumatix TR-606 Finds its Way Home

via Ghostdog.

Here's a story for you. Ghostdog's first drum machine was the Roland TR-606. He picked it up when he was 14. Eventually he sold it. 25 years later he picked one up again. When he looked at the serial number, it was the same exact one. No joke.

Here is a shot of the TR-606 and his son OSCar. Cool name! I wonder if he'll write it with the capital OSC when he gets older.

  1. Why did he still have the serial number?

And man, I wish my parents gave me a 606 to play with when I was little.

    Nice story.

  3. Cute story but most likely it's a different 606. The serial #s on 606s are not unique - they just indicate the month/week of production.

  5. Why is everyone on this blog that is not a fanboy or a gushing hippy labeled a "bringdown"? Yes, it is a cute story, but also yes, doug is correct about the serial numbers being month/week stamps and not unique. No bringdown here just a little more info. :)

  6. My son is also called Oscar, although he prefers my xBase09 to my 606.

  7. the audio levels coming into the headphones straight from the 606 can damage the kids ears...

  11. So where is the serial number on a TR-606 vs. the date?

  12. BTW, if it's not the exact same 606, they at least share the same birthday. : )
