Here's a story for you. Ghostdog's first drum machine was the Roland TR-606. He picked it up when he was 14. Eventually he sold it. 25 years later he picked one up again. When he looked at the serial number, it was the same exact one. No joke.
Here is a shot of the TR-606 and his son OSCar. Cool name! I wonder if he'll write it with the capital OSC when he gets older.
Why did he still have the serial number?
ReplyDeleteAnd man, I wish my parents gave me a 606 to play with when I was little.
Awwww.
ReplyDeleteNice story.
Cute story but most likely it's a different 606. The serial #s on 606s are not unique - they just indicate the month/week of production.
ReplyDelete^^^
ReplyDeleteget a load of 'Cap'n Bringdown'
Why is everyone on this blog that is not a fanboy or a gushing hippy labeled a "bringdown"? Yes, it is a cute story, but also yes, doug is correct about the serial numbers being month/week stamps and not unique. No bringdown here just a little more info. :)
ReplyDeleteMy son is also called Oscar, although he prefers my xBase09 to my 606.
ReplyDeletethe audio levels coming into the headphones straight from the 606 can damage the kids ears...
ReplyDeletewell its the same serial number I had when I was a kid so I just assumed it was the same???
ReplyDeleteMy other son is MAX, named after MAX/MSP so I have OSCAR analog and MAX digital :-)
If we have a daughter she will be SynthiA
I always thought that Kyma would be a cute name for a girl! lol
ReplyDeleteI hope your son OSCar isn't as badly build as the OSCar synthesizers.
ReplyDeleteNice story!
So where is the serial number on a TR-606 vs. the date?
ReplyDeleteBTW, if it's not the exact same 606, they at least share the same birthday. : )
ReplyDeleteKyma is a cool name for a girl. And of course Roland is pretty common. I have a cousin named Roland! : )
ReplyDeletebtw: metasonix also offers some nice possible name choices
ReplyDeleteI'm going to name my son Korg.
ReplyDeleteHere are some names for you: link.
ReplyDeleteThe Matrixsynth award for best crazy ass celebrity name?
"Audio Science" named by Shannyn Sossamon.
Yep....
Haha, Audio Science has got to be one of the coolest names I have heard. You also gotta give it up to my man, Jason Lee, for naming his kid Pilot Inspektor!
ReplyDeleteyou know who will enjoy this story?? my son, FILTOR!!!
