AFG (Audio Frequency Generator - VCO)

Via Mark Pulver on AH:
"Livewire is ready to release the AFG (Audio Frequency Generator - VCO). This is looking to be the hottest VCO on the market.

The the Chaos Computer first showed up at Musikmesse 2006, looks like the (next!) ultimate random voltage generating machine. Mike is saying that it _will_ be out before the end of the year.

Then there was an inference that there may be other goodies released before those.

Pics from his showing at NAMM are here:

  2. Notice the "via AH:" and the quote marks. This comment is more properly to Mark Pulver.

  3. He should have released it incrementally, sending a jpeg of one knob at a time ;)

What's funny about that is the new Blacet modules. No pics, no prices, no samples, no complaints. :)

MMM? pics, prices, samples, complaints. And the whole line was announced in one week, one module a day with the images of the actual modules, followed by the final system. In less than a week.

It will be interesting to see what happens next time.

  5. i doubt that the above was a comment from mike himself. i did play with the vco over at mikes last night, and it is even more amazing now than the last time. i am not sure i have ever heard a vco that does what this does, and there is certainly nothing on the market now that comes close to it as far as how good it sounds to my ears.

i am not sure why the post had the comment "sorry peter" in it, as if this osc somehow takes away from peters osc. they are both different, and i still think peter has a great osc, no reason to talk it down really. i love my model 15's, and have recommended them to many many people over the last year.

    No anonymous trolling, either.

Blacet is an established player in the modular synth biz. The price range of modules is known. The build-quality is known. The form-factor is known. The modules presented don't exactly lend themselves to audio samples (ooo! let me hear that splitter! WOW!)

Drawn out teaser campaigns work in some instances and not in others. There were too many questions and unknowns that were given time to poison the eventual unveiling of the MMM.

First impressions matter and if the system were presented in total first, that impression would be "Hey! Cute New Modular! Neat!" Instead, each aspect was given time to be picked apart by vultures - starting with the most mundane modules.

It was an interesting experiment, but I can't help feel the process did more harm than good.

  7. Well, I assure you it won't happen again.

"Instead, each aspect was given time to be picked apart by vultures - starting with the most mundane modules."

You do realize you are one of those vultures and you are being one right now, don't you?

  8. And the biggest mistake? It was responding in the comments. You now know why most manufactures stay clear of them. We get what we ask for.

  9. Regarding the quote, it was Mark, not Mike and the peter comment I'm guessing was most definitely in humor.

  10. After two years the Chaos Computer is coming out? Awesome if yes but not holding my breath. We've heard this before from them on this and the VCO.

  11. @prophei: i am not sure why the post had the comment "sorry peter" in it...

Basically 'cause I was all set to spend money on Model 15's, but that money is now going to Mike.

I hear ya. Isn't it so funny when everyone whines so much when all that's happening is people working hard to try to make em happy :)
