Sequential Circuits Prophet-600

Title link takes you to shots via this auction. I wonder what impact the new Dave Smith Instruments Prophet '08 will have on the price of the old SCI Prophets. If anyone gets to A/B them, please post back.

  1. hahah. "mint! no dents or scratches!"
    "pictures don't do it justice"

yeah, your pictures don't do your statements justice, considering the fact that there are several visible dents, scratches and dings in the pics. The wood ends alone have enough chunks missing and scratches to drop this well below a "mint".
anyways, just looks like another person trying to cash in on the analog craze.... $1000 for a P600, are you nuts? as the name implies, these things aren't worth much over $600.
sorry matrix if this is too negative a post for you, I am just sick of people misusing words like "mint" and "museum" in auctions.

  2. I somewhat agree with you about the price, but it's not unheard of to see a P-600 with a near $1k price tag. Just take a look at winecountrysequential.com some time.

  3. The P-600 is extremly underrated and a beautiful synth. The Price is ok.

  4. yeah, but wine country are like new basically, so you pay the premium. this is a run of the mill example with an unknown service / condition history.
of course the P600 is underrated, and of course it's a beautiful synth... but $1000 is too much, especially for this example. I have seen truly mint ones go for upwards of $900 on private sites from synth restoration shops, but on ebay, good luck.
anyways, I predict an auction with no winner then a re-list @ $800.

  5. It's called the prophet 600 'cause it's worth $600 -- no more.

  6. Maybe you guys were zygotes at the time, but Prophet 600s went for $250-$325 from about 1988-2004. If you say its worth '600' because its called a Prophet 600, cool. Still, You'll see them go, in good condition, for $800-$1000 these days it seems. What is interesting is that while ebay makes what was for years very rare or even mythical available, you have a huge audience. And even if a piece isn't that rare (such as a moderately mass produced Prophet 600) you're still going to be fighting with a hundred or so people and if one of those people are willing to spend $999 for the synth you want for $600, you're screwed... perhaps even in the last 10 seconds of the auction ;-)

  7. Prophet-5s and even 600s will continue to go UP in price even with the "Prophet" 08 being out since the real Prophets have true analog VCOs and Poly-Mod (FM)
