Awesome. I love the dude breakdancing in the balcony.
ReplyDeleteFairlight CMI FTW
I think he's wearing a toupee, actually.
ReplyDeleteCool 1987 interview with Thomas Dolby on the Fairlight, PPG, "Science" synths (all Micromoog and JP4) and more on the Electronic Musician site this month.

ReplyDeletesynth duster.
synthetic, thanks for the link. Very interesting. So can we assume the bassline is the Micromoog? I always loved that bassline.
ReplyDeleteFunny how the crowd in "She Blinded Me" is kind of... not sure how to react? Blinded with science?
ReplyDeleteThe bass looks like its played on either a Jupiter 4 or a Promars.
ReplyDeleteGolly, is it just me or is this really lifeless? I'm a BIG fan of Dolby but this left me feeling rather disappointed. Maybe it was the lighting or something.
ReplyDeleteI think that is a JP4 btw, and that guy playing the string lines has an amazingly high voice!
After further review, I have come to the following conclusion:
ReplyDeleteBT + Val Kilmer = Thomas Dolby
FYI: the bass lines on the tracks "She Blinded Me With Science" and "One of our Submarines" were recorded separately from the other tracks with a Moog Source.
