Nice to see a Blacet Post.
ReplyDeleteReally. Although the euro format is more popular over all, mostly because of all the european sales, I think that the majority of people in the states go with frac. At least from what I have seen.
ReplyDeleteI saw Lesser with Kid 606 and Totem Plow in a warehouse called the Soap Factory in Minneapolis. I think there were about 10 people total that were not in one of the bands. All three acts killed it anyway.
ReplyDeleteYou're still in SF right? Do you bring your modular out when you play live?
PS - We gave you guys a tape of our band (Unconditional Loathing) at that show. I apologize.
ya, actually i just played the sfemf and brought it out... but leaving for the east coast in a month... *sigh* - and i absolutely remember that tape :) enjoyed your tracks on the myspaces today
ReplyDeletebtw... if you dont check the rollovers.. heres some samples:

Cool. You should call #4 "Angry Zipper God"
Is frac really the most popular format in the US? I'm pretty sure Euro is 'winning' worldwide.
ReplyDeleteBlacet makes some real nice oddball modules as well as standard stuff, but I hate the way the knobs are orientated, and the way there is a gap between the panels, I wish he would sell them without the front panels or redesign them. The sound is faultless though and IMHO much richer than Doepfer.
ReplyDeleteJust seems that the panel design was governed by off the shelf knobs because I can see no practical reason why you would want the knobs 90 degrees CCW to where every other piece of equipment has the knobs.
I have about 72 Blacet modules, and I can tell you that there's no 'gap between the modules' whatsoever - I can't imagine what you are talking about with that one!
ReplyDeleteThe knobs took me all of about 30 seconds to get used to, and i find now I prefer it this way.
I agree about the knobs... and they actually make sense in a weird way (inverting cv or bias) - or maybe just to me.
ReplyDeleteI definitely understand what you mean about space on the panel tho.. but most of the modules are multi-featured, or have more stuff going on than doepfers and when you look at whats there, it would really be impossible to get it all into one 1 instead of 2 spaces. Also, I've started adding mults and a shift register to the frakrac ears (which DO seem abnormally large to me) - so that is helping with the wasted space.
Overall, I just think that a modular synth should be black, boxy-looking and have the overall appearance of something put together using spare military parts. Blacet fits the profile perfectly.
