  1. Can anyone answer these questions please...I have a matrix 1000 and wondering would there be any advatage in having the matrix 6 apart from obviously having a keyboard, also I can edit my matrix 1000 with software but it's a bit of a pain..plus I was wondering what the action was like and if it has touch sensitive keys etc!?! Oberheims are my favourite synths I've been lucky enough to play a few but really don't have the money for anything really past the matrix 6 6r 1000 price range...or perhaps I've missed one that is brilliant and affordable? thanks in advance!!

  2. The keys are light but very nice considering. Not only do they have aftertouch and velocity sensitivity, but they have release velocity, meaning you can assign how quickly you release the keys to whatever you want. For example you could set it to release and filter cutoff so when you play quickly the sound does not have a long release or rather does not sustain but if you slowly release the keys then it has a long release. Of course you can set it to whatever you want. It is a very nice keyboard and the editing is very easy to pick up. Everything is printed out on top of the synth and grouped logically. There are no sub menus either - everything is right there. The only thing it doesn't have is a value slider or knob. You have to select your parameter and then click the up and down buttons to increment. Hooking up a knob box is limited to a few CC values supported for I think Pressure, Pedal and one other. But... Access did come out with a programmer that works and I've seen it work with a Matrix-6R. I think you do need a later OS for this though.

I'm on the other side. I have a Matrix-6 (my first synth back in 1986 actually, hence the alias and the name of the site), but I'm considering a Matrix-1000 as well.

  3. Oh, I should also mention the pressure aftertouch is very nice. You don't have to work to hard to get it going like on a Roland JX10 and it's not overly sensitive so you won't be triggering it on accident. It's just right.
