I have seen ARPs in worse condition sell on ebay for $4,500+, Considering the history and the condition of this particular ARP, we would like to make sure we are getting what it's worth."
via this Craigslist post.
We haven't had a poll in a while, so why not...

Udpate: and a response from the seller:
"I completely understand that you would like more proof, but it was meant more as a point of interest rather than the only selling point. The current owner has had it for years, and really has no way of proving that Roger Waters owned it, it was just a little bit of interesting history on this particular ARP. I can however, prove that it is in Thievery Corporation studios."
Especially since Roger Waters was a EMS Synthi user. They would have been better to use Pete Townsend. Then again, Pete still has his Arp 2600. And if they want that much for it, why not post on ebay where the price will go sky high?
ReplyDelete100% totally fake I guess - even no pictures posted at the offer.............
ReplyDeleteIt might not be BS, my buddy had a set of hand me down turntables from Jam Master Jay(RIP), I also got a KARMA w/ stand, SKB hard case and Studio essentials EXB for $300 off craigslist. If your in the area check it out, ya got nothing to lose. But indeed I'd still be wary if its not being purchased in person. Dont even get me started on the free OB-1 story in Miami, buddy ended up with a free OB-1 after $.35 cents in repair!
ReplyDeleteI received this reply to an inquiry:
ReplyDelete"This ARP was in Roger Waters studio for 3 years, then it was sold to Jeff Kepper (sp?), who worked on synthesizers and keyboards. It was then sold by Jeff to the current owner at Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center. I don't have the exact model number on me right now, but I do believe it is the 2600P."
More info supposed to come this evening.
In some quantum reality this is real for sure.
ReplyDeleteWhat's happening with the high prices for 2600s anyway? Recently, someone advertised one on ebay for $6500, and there was nothing special about it. (There was another one going for $1495 :) ). I remember when $3000 was a high price.
ReplyDeleteall 2600 should be worth $2600
ReplyDeleteRe 1 up:
ReplyDeleteI agree, and a 303 should be worth $303.
And a Matrix-12 should be $12.
ReplyDeleteI like it, I like it.
Could I get a Moog System 55 for $55?
ReplyDeleteThe Future Retro 777 was $777 if I remember correctly.
ReplyDeleteOr, inspired by doctor future's quantum reality comment, I present the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle of Online Synth Purchases:
ReplyDeleteYou can't know what it is and what it's worth at the same time.
So:
1) I know what it is, but I have no idea what to pay for it.
OR
2) I know what I paid for it, but I have no idea what it is.
Isn't it amazing how often "what it's worth" actually means "what I think I should have to pay for it?"
ReplyDeleteSomeone should ask the seller: "If Roger didn't like it enough to keep it, why should I buy this?"
ReplyDeleteI can't remember where I read it, but I recall that someone said that in the early 70's, the cost of a new 2600 was the same as the cost of a VW Bug. So, what's a '74 VW Beetle going for on Ebay or Craig's List these days? maybe that's what the price of a 2600 should be...
ReplyDeleteI just checked. Old VW bugs in excellent/mint condition go for $3k - $11k. So nothing would change.
ReplyDeleteHmm. Someone should do a socio-economic study of this correlation.
Back to the numeric silliness...
Could I get a IIIp for 3p?
(p = British pence)

Funny, I read 3p as short for JX-3P. :)
