Alesis Ion The Cars "Let's Go"

"Here is a cool Sync Lead patch from the Ion."
BTW, if you have an ION or a Micron or are contemplating one, read this. I'm not sure how wide spread this problem is as the first I hear of it was on AH today. If you know more feel free to comment. For what it's worth, I have an Ion and haven't run into this but you better believe I will be careful with electro-static shock. The ION really is a great synth.

  1. It is what it is. The way I see it, perhaps they modeled those ancient synths too well... including unreliability. ;)

I have a Micron. No output problems yet. Although the data potentiometer has become more vague with time (sometimes it will click as you turn it, but data values won't change). There are fixes listed for this on the yahoo group as well.

If the output FET goes, I'll find a way to repair it. This synth is way too much fun to bail out on. It would be my first choice if asked what synth I'd want if I was stranded on a deserted island (along with electricity and perhaps a soldering iron).

  2. Synth sounds very good. I like this cars song too. Leather jacket, nice touch.

I think more synths should be covered in leather.

  3. Oh, and my previous commentary was solely on the reliability, not the chops.

Very nice job on "Let's Go". Greg Hawkes would be proud. ;)

It was the Micron's/Ion's ability to do patches like these that pushed me to back into synthesis after a hiatus of a decade. Check out the demo patches at: http://www.synthmania.com/micron.htm

  4. maybe before you play a song that everybody knows, you should actually learn the correct pitches that make up the part. why do people post these retarded videos?

  5. The 2008 Alesis Product Guide shows 6 different synths in their current line-up.

I just checked that out. Then it dawned on me that the most recent offering (Micron) in their synth product line came out about 4 years ago. And the QS series is 12 years old.

I'm afraid their synth engineers left the building quite some time ago. :(

  8. The Fusion is more recent - a bit over 2 years old now.

  9. For the two guys with the negative comments...go screw yourself. My videos are for those who are interested in what the synth sounds like. And the pitch is correct, have a great day dickheads!
