Analog Synthesizers VS Digital

  1. I would say that the String Ensemble is only sort of analog. It's closer to a digital organ, with top octave dividers from a master clock.

  2. Wow, he had a total of 14 votes at the end of his survey.

  3. Get this ammature out of here, that is a crappy converter jack, one not even worthy of doing this comparison with. it cannot even capture analog correctly..

  4. oh and lets not forget, most people on the internet are people cannot tell the difference between their head and their asses. so polls on this mean nothing..

but seriously, the delta 1010 is awful. i mean super awful, the filter on it makes everything sound digital and cold, that converter has so much digital jitter, your test is flawed just from using that cheap crappy sound converter. but ov course, you wouldn't know anything about pro audio now would you? neither would the newbs who took your poll.

  5. This wasn't a comparison at all.
It would be more appropriate and
scientific to account for the entire signal path and compare methods of recording as well as comparing the synthesis techniques.
Now Hiss off all of you.

  6. That is, admittedly, sort of an odd choice of a sound sample to begin with.

And I would agree that the Delta series interfaces are pretty crappy.

But I also agree with the one comment from the voter quoted in the video: "who cares?"

Really, these days, it's just a matter of taste. To be a super-purist about any of that stuff kind of makes one seem like a bore.

It's like the people that go on-and-on about how records sound 'better' than digital recordings. Not 'better', just different (and outdated, to a certain extent). The kids these days don't really seem to care about all of this. From my experience, the youth seem to be just as easily impressed by a 'harsh' digital sound as a 'fat' analog one. It's all about context.

    We live in different times...

  7. Thanks to all of you for the replies!
Actually, I just wanted to check if it's possible hear a difference between Digital and Analog using non-hi-quality recording formats and without buying +1000$ audio interfaces/converters.
It's very hard to hear a difference between these two formats unless you have a hi-quality sound source and signal path, as well as good sound system. I don't think that a lot of people can say that they are making music strictly for audiophiles, so all warmth will probably be lost. I suppose producers should concentrate on musical content rather than technological process.
