  1. Why doesn't dave get a clue? No one cares about more low pass filter polysynths. Every VA on the market has a multimode filter, that is all he needed to add to this synth to push it over the top and make me want one. But as it is, it's that same old over done CEM sound that sucked in the 80s and sucks now.

Everyone knows the jupiter 8, memory moog, and the cs80 are the poly synths to beat. And i hate to say this, but i even prefer the juno 60 and polysix to this thing.

The original prophet 5 with the ssm chips is up there with all of the above, unfortunately, once they switched to CEM chips, the sound went to hell, almost everyone who has used all these synths says the same thing.

The new moogs lack the high end brilliance of the old moogs, the a6 is dull, the prophet 8 is dull as well.

We live in an age where sound quality is way better, but these synth designers just don't seem to get it. I think a modern day xpander would be exciting, not another CEM prophet.. Xpander is CEM, but the best sounding CEM of them all.

  3. You say "same old over done CEM sound that sucked in the 80s and sucks now."

Then you say the Memorymoog is one of the polys to beat? And you want a modern day Xpander?

    These are both CEM!?!?

  4. Yeah, the memory moog is great because of the filter and you get 3 osc. so its huge.

The Xpander used better sounging CEM chips. But the ob8, jupiter 6, the pro one, and the prophet 5 rev 2 and 3 use the yucky CEM chips. lets not forget the matrix 6r/1000 with the worst of the worst CEM chips.

I think the prophet 08 uses some kind of variation of the matrix 1000 osc. So that is why i cannot stand it's tone.

    Again it's a taste thing.

  6. aye, you are right, the ssm is great.. i mean the rev 3 only.. bah.. forgot the rev 2 was ssm..

  7. In fact I had the chance to have a rev2 and a rev3 side by side and they sounded very similar, much more than I expected.

  8. I prefer the sound of my Prophet 08 to that of my old Jupiter 8. The programming possibilities alone make it a more interesting machine regardless of the taste issue. Please don't shoot me.
