Doobie Brothers with Michael McDonald LIVE 1977

YouTube via fritzritz. "Echoes Of Love" Sent my way via Brian Kehew of The Moog Cookbook.
Note how he is playing the Oberheim 4-Voice polyphonically. Each SEM is an independent synth, meaning there is no auto-tuning between voices - each one has to be independently tuned to line up correctly.

  1. Is Skunk Baxter playing a Roland GR500 guitar synth? I think it is (look at all the knobs), but it's a bit hard to tell for sure. Incidentally, Baxter has made a nice second career for himself as a missile defense expert.

  3. 1977? Great, closed my eyes and listened and it could pass of as some current indie band! Amazing!

  5. not ribbon mics... Sennheiser made the excellent MD409 dynamic flat faced mic -gold grill on one side, black on the other. it was primarily used by engineers in front of amps. Now they remake it as the e609 - not remotely sounding like the original, but still a pretty good mic for $100.
