"the instrument can be instantly recognized, and the mod is described in the caption ['a trip down memory lane. this is the 'matrix 12' which confused so many reviewers back in 2002 when i released Crashing the Russian Renaissance. note cyclone arpeggiator on right side, it is a monstrously powerful device for creating ostinatos and repetitive figures out of nothing. sadly, the synthesizer was stolen from me in 2007. it can be recognized by a half dozen 1/4" jacks on the back and toggle switches which enable one to either process six external signals or pass voices 7-12 into voices 1-6 for additional processing. '] it's the only one in the world modified that way, i know that because i modified all four of them and this one is unique - none of the others have toggle switches.
this one was modded by one of my collaborators with my assistance, it has _six_ jacks on the back approximately 1.5" apart from each other, in a straight line, roughly in the center of the back. above that is a row of six three position mini-toggles which allow the user to:
a-route the six synths in the bottom voice board into the six synths of the top voice board
b-do nothing
c-send line level signals at the jacks into the six synths of the top voice board.
there is no plastic plate on this instrument, the mod is clean but looks homebrewed. i never duplicated this mod, and to the best of my knowledge it never occurred to anyone else to duplicate this mod.
if the instrument is opened, it can be seen that the voice stacking option is done by running test probes with spring clips over to the hot pins on six of the voices on the stock multiple output modification made by oberheim.
additionally, the numbers for the multiple output mod have been peeled off because i had a bit of tape covering them up - in order for dan to make the mod work, he had to reverse the two banks of six jacks referencing the multiple outputs, so if you try to use them you'll find that they run

It might be helpful to know where the crime occurred.
ReplyDeleteIt occurred in the San Francisco are from a shop that it was on consignment at. It was last spotted in the lower Haight. All of this has only occurred in the past few days. How a person walks out with a hot synth under arm(s)? is beyond me. I wish the owner luck. I personally know this synth and its owner and over the past few years I have contemplated picking it up from him. Now I just hope he gets it back before it ends up on Craigslist or Ebay and then onto Europe where might EUROs get you the most weak Dollars.
ReplyDeleteLet's all keep an eye on the Craigslists in our respective areas. If they are trying to fence it fast, and they don't care about getting top dollar, they might try to fence it through a Craigslist in an area of the country where they think it won't be spotted.
ReplyDeleteOh, one other thing: Is the serial # known?
ReplyDeleteDoesn't the shop have some liability here? I suppose you had some written consignment agreement, right?
ReplyDeleteGood Luck, LX.
ReplyDelete- eyes peeled in Petaluma
as there's a reward out, i want some proof that i'm being contacted by someone who actually has access.
ReplyDeletethe first $50 will be earned by confirming that you've seen the correct instrument. your tool is the SN.
the second $50 is upon putting me in contact with the machine's current owner.
the final $100 will be given upon return of the instrument to me.
i am currently trying to find my photos of the modification and will post them when they surface. if i do post the SN, it will be because this situation has escalated further.
at current time i'm awaiting callback from Chris Romano, to see if he and i can settle without going further down this path.
the holder of this instrument should understand that i want resolution, not blood.
be courageous, contact me and let's go from there.
