"Rare and precious example of one of the first truly polyphonic synthesizers in the world."

Update via Milo Johnson in the comments: "That's odd. Both of mine have wood fascias on the body of the synth, and I have never seen one that was all-black like this."

Update via Frank: "both my PE-1000s “had/have” (meaning: sold the first, missed it, bought the second) black Tolex all around with no wood showing. My second one must be quite late, as it also has the all-plastic MS-20 style knobs rather than the older style with the aluminum skirts. "

  3. Good point. It was that 3100-style faux-wood contact paper. I wouldn't have thrown it in the dumpster if it was black.

Honestly, it is very easy to hear the P-series keyboard on "Albedo 0.39" by Vangelis. Still...

  4. I have two PE-1000P and two PE-1000S models, and they both have the vinyl woodgrain and the aluminum knobs. I've seen probably twenty or twenty-five of both models total, and they all had the woodgrain and aluminum knobs. I'm just surprised to see that there were other cosmetic details than those that I'm familiar with. Are they great instruments? Who knows, that's terribly subjective. All I can say is that they have a unique and interesting sound that can bring a real unusual quality to the right arrangement. I have mine as much for their history as for their sound, and one of them that I picked up a few years ago turned out to be the exact instrument that I lusted for in a music store in Vermont back in 1978 and which was later purchased new by the guy who replaced me in the very band I was in at the time, so I have a real personal connection to it.
