  1. Yow - is that oscillator section really stepped sounding like that on an A6? Or is it programmed in steps (half-tones?) and can be turned off for full range? Curious...

  2. NOVATION Andromeda A6? Did Novation buy Alesis from Numark?

The large oscillator semitone knobs are stepped in semitones, then there's a smaller cents knob from -100 to 100 for tuning within the semitone and another small fine knob for tuning from -100 to 100 within the cents step, very handy for fine oscillation adjustments.

The Andromeda uses NRPN values for all controls, for instance 4096 steps cutoff values (IIRC). So stepping is definitely not a problem on the Andromeda.

The Andromeda is an awesome machine for synthesis, very flexible. It's not limited to certain sweet spots, you have to find them yourself, it can do a very broad range of sounds. The trick often is to use small amounts of a parameter to nicely thicken the sound.

  3. I find I hear stepping on short envelopes more. It seems the CPU can only change an envelope value at a certain rate, and it sounds like pretty big jumps if you've got fast attacks, or big value changes over a small time.

It is the curse of digitally controlled analog.

Overall, sounds very good tho. I've been a happy users for ages. Super value in a synth.

  4. Thanks nikokid for taking time to share your thoughts on the Alesis Andromeda A6.

lamerdeluxe..the Novation reference is obviously a typo or momentary brain fart, however, maybe Novation COULD do better marketing than Alesis has on the A6.lol I do appreciate your technical comments on the A6.

I took the plunge Friday and ordered a brand new A6 from Shawn Cleary at Analoghaven, it seems Alesis has released a large batch.

I'm in the process of selling some gear to fund the purchase of this awesome analog, soon it will be joined by it's new brother (pre-ordered)Solaris from John Bowen.:)

  5. The A6 was just 5% off f being THE BEST analogue synth ever . It is a real shame they never got to completely get the other 5% done.

I had one loved it but sold it to help finance the 200e.
