Appendage: Test Driving the Dragon Controller

YouTube via ScottStites
"This is my new Dragon Controller driving the Appendage. It's made of an exotic hardwood, with an Asian Dragon motif carved in it. I' ve got it plugged into the Appendage controller, and it's driving a fairly simple patch. The video demonstrates the ease with which one can change the dynamics of what the controller is doing using the Appendage. Finally, in this video, the Appendage is driving a pair of pulse wave VCOs through a new filter prototype I've been working on the past week or so.

I used some red font that really crapped out when rendered - I overlaid that part with annotations so they could be readable."

  1. Any ideas how he is able to control overall range with the second hand?

  2. Hey Nathan,

Actually that's just good old fashioned Ohm's Law working there. The Appendage was in voltage mode in that video, so applying a second pressure point will result in a proportionate change of voltage on the Slide, Bend and TFS voltages.

In the first part of the video, the voltage controlling the VCOs was the Initial Voltage, which is fixed at the first pressure point value, and, later when the Bend voltage was added, it summed a continuous voltage that is zeroed at the first pressure point, which makes the "Ohm's Law" explanation rather hard to fathom when watching what's going on.

Things act differently when the Appendage is in current mode. I've written it all up (hopefully more coherently than here) in this document:

It's a PDF document about the Appendage, and ribbon controllers in general.

    Cheers,
    Scott
