Korg MicroKORG

via this auction. I almost put this one on MATRIXSYNTH-B
It's interesting to see this synth in time. The perspective now is obviously different than when it first came out, like the Trinity further below. I'm curious how these synths will age in time. The MicroKORG kind of reminds me of the DX7 of our time. It didn't really bring anything new aside from maybe it's compact package, but you see them everywhere. Compact and affordable does mean something...
I wonder how many of these sold.

  1. These little microKORG synths are something else. Weird interface for storing patches. Especially since the program select knob has genres on the silkscren instead of banks. And talk about cryptic LED-digit texts!

But mang... they put out the bass and have some nice delay, and are fun for going sound spelunkering on the cheap. And battery powered, too?!

What a little kick in the pants!!

  2. The other thing... small enough to meet carry-on luggage size restrictions.

  3. Perhaps a Yamaha DX100 would be a better analogy: mini keys, batteries, repackaged tech. Afterall, the MicroKorg is a repackaged MS2000.

  4. I still get annoyed if I play a show or house party or someone just comments on my gear in general with something like, "You should get a Microkorg!" They usually say this while standing near my MS-2000.

I also hate it when people say how awesome the vocoder is. 8 bands isn't my ideal specs for processing vocals. Ive used it, but they were intended for experimental synth sounds instead of audible vocals. No one can understand what you say through this live!

  5. A microKORG was my first (and, so far, only) synth. I must say it gave me a whole new take on musical control interfaces. Not intuitive at all for me. But it was a fun little toy.
