a lot of these tone generators are 'stepped' , i.e. you pick a range like x1 x10 x100 x1000 etc. and that limits their output to a narrow band, and in the lab that was important because accuracy was required, for audio fun with synths and noise toys however you should try and find a generator that sweeps from 20hz to 20khz continuously...they exist and its a hoot to sweep the whole dial and not be limited to 1000 hz to 9999 hz, or 100hz to 999 hz , of course you can have fun in those ranges but its more fun to go from say 2000hz down to 40hz without a break ....

ReplyDeleteThe Wavetek has an input for voltage control that allows you access to the whole frequency range. I'm planning on bringing that home to test out this weekend.
I'm imagining that it wouldn't be too hard to modify one either. I'm keeping one of the CSIs, so maybe I'll open it up and see what makes it tick.
