"ARP Axxe Synth Autographed by Stockhausen...
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to buy a synthesizer autographed by the composer Karlheinz Stockhausen!
I loaned this synth to Stockhausen for a series of performances of the opera 'Donnerstag Aus Licht' at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 1985.After the performances ended, I asked Stockhausen to autograph the synth for me.
Dedication reads 'For another FESTIVAL, David? I'm with you! Stockhausen Oct. 1st, 1985'. Unfortunately the pen wasn't a very good contrast with the black surface of the synth, but the writing is clearly readable to the eye...
Regarding certification of the autograph, I will give the winning bidder a signed letter stating the authenticity of the autograph, on request."
You can probably clean off the writing with a little isopropyl alchohol otherwise there's always a danger that any music played on the synth will be very long, self-important, and not terribly good.
ReplyDeleteStockhausen must be the composer most frequently mentioned as an 'influence' and most infrequently listened to by those people who claim him as such.
What a treasure! I know a few people who were at that Covent Garden production and were thrilled that Donnerstag came to the UK.
ReplyDeleteYes, Matt, ordinary, run of the mill Brits turned out in droves to see Stockhausen's first opera. In fact, all of the performances of the Licht operas were jam packed.
It's possible to love his music without being an acolyte.
