"here's a shot I took from the final NIN Farewell show in Los Angeles last night at The Wiltern. From Left to Right that's Dave Navarro, What looks to me like a DSI Poly Evolver (though i was pretty far away), Trent Reznor, and Atticus Ross fiddling with something...he seemed to be triggering various events with it."
Anyone ID the Synth? It obviously could be an MEK as well. Click the image and zoom in.
Update via Aecio in the comments: "and here's a video of it falling down (see after 4 mins) [and the end]. poor thing."

Correct you are: it is a Dave Smith Poly Evolver.
ReplyDeletelooks like a mono evolver..only 3 cctaves. how was the show?
ReplyDeleteFINAL show?
ReplyDeleteIt was just him and whoever he hired.
Will he just be lil ol Trent Reznor from now on?
It's a 3-octave keyboard, so I suppose it could be a DSI Mono Evolver. But the end caps are rectangular and red, which makes it look like an Alesis Micron. But the mod wheel is in the wrong place for a Micron, so I don't know :-)
ReplyDeleteIts the Mono Evolver. Big NIN fan so I seen pictures of it aplenty. He also mentioned it by name in his Twitter long ago.

Here is another picture. Theres tons of them including videos online. This is a good enough picture to give you the idea. Also note the lack of lit mod wheels like the Poly Evolver has.

I also heard he owns a Poly Evolver. I wouldn't doubt that. He owns more gear then he does black v-neck t-shirts.

Reznors abuse of synths has a long history - he started the trend back in the early days of NIN after being called a synth band. He would destroy a synth on occasion to prove his masculinity and appease his lithium loving audience.
ReplyDeleteI've stopped caring after "pretty hate machine"
I own this Dave Smith Evolver and the custom NIN stand. It still has many songs programmed into it from live shows. Would there be interest if I decided to sell?
