Are Xpanders really worth buying? The price isn't terrible and they have MIDI, but the unit is really getting old. Is the Alesis Andromeda really a bad-pick vs the Xpander? I think not.
ReplyDeleteXpanders sound gorgeous. what do you mean getting old? like a fine wine? I haven't hear Andromedas but Xpanders sound amazing. My only gripe is the stepped pots. But a price to be payed for software matrix modularity I suppose.
ReplyDeleteI bought a brand new Andromeda about 10 months ago. It sounded great, but it was terribly constructed: one voice was bad, the display was faulty, and the mod wheel wouldn't stay where you left it if the synth was on an even slightly angled stand.
ReplyDeleteI returned it, and I didn't trust the current Alesis to build them properly, so I bought something else. Xpanders have a track record of at least average reliability, and they're considered by many to be among the best analog polysynths ever made. Food for thought.
