  1. Are Xpanders really worth buying? The price isn't terrible and they have MIDI, but the unit is really getting old. Is the Alesis Andromeda really a bad-pick vs the Xpander? I think not.

  2. Xpanders sound gorgeous. what do you mean getting old? like a fine wine? I haven't hear Andromedas but Xpanders sound amazing. My only gripe is the stepped pots. But a price to be payed for software matrix modularity I suppose.

  3. I bought a brand new Andromeda about 10 months ago. It sounded great, but it was terribly constructed: one voice was bad, the display was faulty, and the mod wheel wouldn't stay where you left it if the synth was on an even slightly angled stand.

I returned it, and I didn't trust the current Alesis to build them properly, so I bought something else. Xpanders have a track record of at least average reliability, and they're considered by many to be among the best analog polysynths ever made. Food for thought.
