  1. Not to diss the cat people, but I never understood why used synth ads always stress "non smoking" studios for obvious reasons, but no one ever mentions the very real problems that cat hair could cause vintage gear. Let's just say that if I had the choice between cat-haired gear and not, count me in the "not" pile.

  2. @EmptySet
ha! i hopped over here from the feed to post the exact same thing: "used lightly in a cat-free studio".
but i can't really claim that myself, to be honest.

  3. What serious damage could cat or any animal hair cause to vintage synths?

Nobody wants gear in a smoked fill environment because of the gross yellow tint it can give on keys as well as the nasty smell.

  4. hey there, those are my cats you see there ... if i had the room and the money, I would keep my cats clear of all the gear ... but, i lost my job and moved into an apartment that i could afford ... so its just one big room.

I regularly clean my gear ... thats the best i can do. The cat you see on my theremin, her name is Plato .. she is the only that really sits on anything .. she loves taking naps on the theremin for some reason.

  5. It isn't just cat hair which is a problem (and to answer M, an accumulation of it can lead to electrical shorts, can act as an insulator of heat that would otherwise safely escape, and can find its way into knobs and sliders, causing stiffness and scratchiness). It's also the cat litter that some cats manage to carry in their paws for a significant distance, only to deposit later. I love my cats, but they are completely kept from the room with my synths.

  6. yeah, thats why i'm almost OCD when it comes to cleaning my place; and making sure my gear is all clean. i've gone to the length of taking my p600 completely apart and cleaning the contacts.

  7. I'm glad to see some people talking sense in here. I'm usually the only one that sees a problem with cats getting on the gear.

  8. Hey, if "cat hair causes vintage gear", I might just save all those hairballs for 7 months and get me a Prophet?

  9. isotopeofme ... yeah, it is a problem; but one i must deal with until i can afford a place where I can have an isolated room.

  10. Pets will be missed more than gear in the end.
