Plogue chipsounds

From the makers of Plogue Bidule:
"Plogue’s new soft-synthesizer turns your VST/AU/RTAS host into a classic video game console, vintage 8bit home computer and even an 80’s arcade.

Plogue chipsounds authentically emulates more than eight vintage 8bit-era sound chips (on top of their variants), down to their smallest idiosyncrasies.

But more interestingly, it also faithfully allows you to dynamically reproduce the accidentally discovered sounds effect tricks and abusive musical techniques that were made famous by innovative chip music composers and classic video game sound designers, which for the good part of the last 2 decades, have pushed beyond the boundaries of the original chip designs.

In short, whether you are looking for a new arsenal of UNIQUE sounds as the basis of unique modern music OR to remix classic game tunes (or emulate its disctinct styles) look no further!"

  1. No mention of the sid filter emulation. So perhaps it's a very standard filter emulation ?

The sid filter clips in a variety of ways that seem non linear and difficult to emulate.

At least, that's how it sounds in the sidstation.

I always thought someone would combine the soundchip code from various open source emulators into a collection of free plugins.

All rants aside, the plogue chipsound demoes have interesting qualities to them. So even if it does not emulate the originals 100%, it sounds nice in its own right.

  2. @xonox The samples from the SID emulation sound great to me. Never worked with a real SID voice chip but it sounds on que with most other SID emulations out there.

Unsure if this is free or not but I will buy it if the price is decent.

Not to take away the flair from this promising VST but IceCream is great for low-fi low-bit sounds too. It doesn't aim to emulate a certain chip but you can make it emulate a wide variety of chips rather easy. http://www.kvraudio.com/get/3974.html

  3. Yes v1.0 does have a distorting/non linear SID filter emulation.
Of course I feel there is room for improvement in future builds on that particular aspect of the product, as SID Filters emulation is a whole project on its own.

    Regards
