"A 'boop-squawk' improvisation on the classic ARP 2600 analog synthesizer"

"Of all the analog synthesizers, the 2600 struck the most perfect balance between the flexibility of a modular synth and the usability of a hard-wired signal path. The completely normalled signal path enables use of the 2600 without any patch cords for most applications, but it has a full set of patch connections for complete flexibility. Specifically, this instrument is a gray-face ARP 2600P synthesizer, v2.0 (s/n 26034), from around 1971, which sports the Tonus logo. The original cabinet was degenerating when I got it so I remounted it in a brand new 2600 cabinet of later vintage. The new cabinet was made for the larger panel used from 1972 on, so there are small gaps above and below the panel. Five missing slider caps have been replaced with slightly wider caps. The keyboard is a 3604P keyboard (s/n 361358) with the G-clef logo. It was not the keyboard that originally came with the synthesizer itself. The keyboard’s Tolex shows some wear, but the keyboard itself is fully functional and in good condition. The keyboard has just (Dec 09) been fitted with a brand new, custom, all-wood cabinet by Peter Muny of Muny Woodwork. The new cabinet is MUCH sturdier than the original pressboard cabinet. Both the synthesizer and keyboard were serviced by Phil Cirocco at CMS in November 2009 and are in excellent working condition. Also included is an original owners manual–a classic of electronic music instruction written by Jim Michmerhuizen–plus a service manual and keyboard and power cables. More photos of the synthesizer, inside and out, can be viewed here."
