Serge Modular Goes Crazy

YouTube via tibetronica

"Serge Modular synthesizer playing semiperiodic material. This is now becoming a daily routine. The modules featured here are: Dual Slope Generator, VCFQ, wave shapers, random generators, and sequencers."

Hot Butter realized on Serge Modular

"Serge Modular synthesizer and assorted software used to render a famous song from the early 1970s. Preceded by fast forward homage to Tchaikovsky.

Serge Modular Lets Go

"Serge Modular synthesizer, let go to really do its thing. The most satisfying way to perform an analog synthesizer.

Some of the specialty sounds come from the Wilson Analog Delay modules. The delays can be fed back to self-oscillate, and create unpredictable textures.

The Novation Launchpad was integrated into this performance, mainly via the Launchpad Sequencer M4L patch.

Apparently, Serge synthesizers are no longer being custom-built on a large scale. This system was assembled in the early 1990s at Sound Transform Systems in Oakland, CA."

Fly like an E-bay

"Serge Modular synthesizer, rendering a famous song from the latter 1970s. One of the most structured thing Morley had done in a whole decade.

Morley on his performance:
'This was completely new territory for me. And much more fun than building a Max/MSP patch using some kind of controller. Tonal music rules. Ivan should have taught me all these things. I guess I missed out while all of the grad students and stoners were having fun at Dead concerts. I was obsessed with the new DX-7 in that studio. Everyone was. And the Mac IIc. From now on, I just want to play rock guitar and sing through a talking modulator. And don't forget to bring the Electroharmonix flanger.'"

Are Friends Electric?

"Serge Modular synthesizer and assorted software used to render a famous song from 1979. Gary Newman fans can sing along with this.

Tech notes: MIDI spat out from Ableton Live was converted using an ancient device called the Retro, and fed into the Serge. Various oscillators and filters were used to get the voices going. A touch of slightly random voltages added here and there bring out the warmth of the analog synth."

Serge Modular Analog Delay Jam

"Serge Modular synth performed using 4 parallel Wilson Analog Delays. Modules used were TKB, Sequencer, DSG, PVO, NTO, VCFQ, S/H, Random Smooth, Comparator.

Wilson Delay sometimes acted up in the past, but for this one session, was stable.
