Synth-DIY Southern California - April 3, 2010

YouTube via thisfear — April 03, 2010 — "A rough drive-by shooting at the Synth-DIY analog/digital synthesizer gathering in Sante Fe Springs, CA. See the Synth-DIY mailing list and the Analogue-Heaven mailing list for more info. If you see yourself here, (a) sorry for the vid quality, (b) please make a comment so others can find you."

Update: Two pics of Jim Patchell's modular via George Mattson. Note these images are from the PNW SDIY gathering a few years ago. steelydang in the comments asked what modular it was so I thought I'd update the post with these images.

  1. What is the sequencer plugged into the JP8 at 3:19?

  2. There are more comments on the YouTube page, but the JP8 has a JL Cooper sequencer.

  3. The three octave keyboard at 1:39 - 1:40 looks kind of like an older Edirol midi controller.

  4. RE 1:40, that would be Jim Patchell's creation.

  5. Ah, strike that, the synth at 1:38 - 1:40 is a Roland SH-2.

  7. JL Cooper? Is that a Midi or DCB sequencer? Where is it plugged in?

  8. I don't know for sure but I don't think it's MIDI or DCB. I can only say from looking at it closely from the outside (it's not my synth). I could see a small ribbon cable running from the button "module" to the inside of the JP8. So my best guess is that the part you see is only the buttons/knobs/LED and inside there is a much larger board that perhaps includes it's own CPU. It had a switch for real-time vs. step recording which is cool. Anyway it wasn't functional as near as I could tell. Maybe there is some info avail from JLCooper themselves?
