How To Destroy Angels on Wired

Studio shot via Wired who has an article on How To Destroy Angels' song construction.
"Reznor used his roomful of instruments—a vacuum-tube-powered drum machine [], a Casio SK-1 keyboard with a bent circuit board, and so on—to put together a library of analog and electronic beats... Building on top of this substructure, Reznor and Ross spent two days recording ancillary melodies on a Moog Minimoog Voyager [], an out-of-tune African marimba, a ukulele [], and other instruments." via Antony.

Update: I contacted Eric Barbour of Metasonix on tube based drum machine. I was curious if it was the D-1000 pictured, as I didn't see the signature yellow - it's marked in the image with the red dot. Turns out it's a prototype of the D-1000.

  1. You can also see a F'ing F'ker, and what looks like a set of Metamoduals in the background.

  3. I'd like to see Trent Reznor do something with a budget of $0 and no gear to start with. That would be way more impressive than a studio full of stuff many people couldn't begin to dream of having.

  6. No way, Tom Waits is good by himself.

  7. Something tells me Trent could do rather more with "$0 and no gear" than James could in "a studio full of stuff many people couldn't begin to dream of". Can't think what that something might be...

  8. Pretty Hate Machine is pretty low budget.

  9. From Wikipedia: "Working nights at Right Track Studio as a handyman and janitor,[1] Reznor used studio "down-time" to record and develop his own music. Playing most of the keyboards, drum machines, guitars, and samplers himself, he recorded a demo. The sequencing was done on a Macintosh Plus.[11]"
