SCI Pro-One CPU Replacement/Upgrade & DIY MIDI

pdf here. via Music Technologies Group, here

"The Pro One Replacement CPU module can be used to replace a missing or damaged 8021. It also offers larger sequence memory and non-volatility. Here are the key features:
o Drop-in replacement using standard tools. Plug n Play. No soldering required.
o Supports the original functionality including the sequencer and arpeggiator.
o Each sequence can be up to 256 steps (compared to total of 40 steps on the original).
o Sequences are retained in memory even after power-down. The CPU module does not use a battery.
o Power-on settable parameters for clock start mode, arpeggio up/down mode and arpeggio gate time.
o DIY instructions for building a MIDI interface that allows you to re-flash the CPU firmware (E.g. sending a Sys Ex file using MIDIOX or similar) are provided in the Appendix.
At some point in the future a 5-pin DIN MIDI add-on kit will be offered with a full MIDI implementation (and later a USB-MIDI interface is possible too since the CPU chosen for the module supports both). Currently the module only supports firmware upgrade over 5-pin DIN MIDI."

I originally posted this on 5/9/10 8:25PM with just the links to the PDF. I thought I'd re-post this one with more details and an image of the CPU replacement for those that might have missed it.

  1. This is brilliant, very exciting. The idea of a USB port providing Midi to a 30 year old synth is fantastic, i cant wait to get one. Anyone know price on this?
