Waldorf Micro-Wave Synthesizer with CEM3389/5508‏ chip

via this auction

"This is a rare item [see update below].with CEM3389/5508‏ chip it sounds closer to original PPG than normal Micro-Wave synthesizers. OS VERSION 2.0." I'm assuming this is in comparison to the Microwave II. Anyone know if there were different versions of the original Microwave?

Update: Not so rare at over 1000 units according to Qwave in the comments below. See the comments for more. Via Adrien: see this page on "The inside of a Waldorf microWave" (previously posted). See this post for the rare green and chrome Microwaves referenced by Qwave.

  1. this is Rev A version with 3389 chips
rev B was using 3387 (same as those found in the wave)
there is a very interesting page comparing these 2 models

  2. And it is not rare at all. Or do you think a unit sold more then 1000 pieces is rare? The last 99 microaves were bild in a special green housing. And with slightly different labels: like "juice" for "mains".
And then there is one microwave with a chrome front plate. It was special built for a german magazin at the top prize for a game. A second chrome front plate is still in the hands of the Waldorf production manager. it is not for sale.

  3. Thanks guys. I find I tend need a "refresher" now and then. Only so much memory left. I need an upgrade myself. :)
