"Yves Usson's Random Gates module from a Bridechamber kit. This has a 5U MOTM style front panel and the stooge bracket is too large for my cabinet. I have an MU panel being made by Big Blue Wave to replace this.
The RG module is clocked from the oscillator on board the Q960 sequential controller from synthesizers.com. In turn the eight outputs from the RG is sent back into the in stages on the Q960. This forces each related stage to fire as the RG randomly selects them.
The staccato mode has a trigger that is too fast for the Q960 so the sequencer tends to add two stages together in that mode. When in legato mode the overlap goes away but as a gate is extended from the Random Gates module the Q960 will step forward to the next stage.
The module was my first build in many years. It was fairly easy and took about 4 hours to put together. I had a few things to straighten out in the end but it all went pretty well. The kit was very complete but I added some parts such as the LED sockets and some IC sockets for the chips.
The Q119 sequencer is also playing in random mode. The function is entirely internal on that module. Both sequencers are sending voltage to four oscillators. Two ring modulators are used for each pair of oscillators. One row of the Q960 along with an LFO is managing the cv panner module. A row of the Q119 is sent to the Sea Devils filter for accents.
