"I am the original owner of this Prophet 10 purchased new in 1982. The serial number is 1010-0143. The synthesizer was used mostly in the studio for the first five years I owned it, and has been in storage for the remainder of the time. The unit is in very good working condition.
The unit has been serviced twice, once in Phoenix, Arizona where the Ugly Mod referenced below was done. I recently had it serviced in Colorado for a sticky note and an overheating problem. I have restored the factory presets. The Braemer tape drive referenced below no longer works, but the poly sequencer does.
I contacted the good people at Wine Country in regard to having the MIDI kit installed, and decided to not have it done since it would disable the poly sequencer. The emails from Wine Country are printed below.
'Your Prophet-10 should also have the Ugly Mod installed on its CPU board if it is not already present. The ugly mod centers around IC #21 on the Main CPU board, and pictures of the mod are attached for your review. You might do a visual check to see if this Modification is already implemented on your CPU board. Later models of the Prophet-10 (with the tape drive mounted on the left side panel) had this modification incorporated into the PC board design.
If your Prophet-10 has its tape drive located in the front under the pitch/mod box, then the tape drive AND poly sequencer will be DISABLED upon installation of the MIDI kit. A Prophet-10 MIDI kit is available for $299, and installation & operational instructions are included. Attached for your review find the operating instructions for the MIDI kit.
If your Prophet-10 has its tape drive located in the front under the pitch/mod box, the tape drive AND poly sequencer will be DISABLED upon installation of the MIDI kit. Should this be the case then it might be best to hold off on installing MIDI at this time.
However, if the tape drive is on mounted the left panel, then installing MIDI might be justified since it does not disable the on board sequencer and adds MIDI to the Prophet's list of features thereby increasing its perceived overall value. A Prophet-10 with MIDI and a side tape drive represents the highest level of upgrade.'"
