Simmons SDSV (SDS5) classic analogue drum synth brain

"This is the sound generating 'brain' of the Simmons drum synth system, famous for its punchy synthetic sounds (think 'Eastenders theme') and appearance on many '80s hits. The Simmons brain was usually triggered by the famous Simmons hexagonal pads, but it can be played by many types of acoustic trigger, by synthesizer voltage pulses, or it can be modified to work with MIDI (see the Kenton electronics website).

This system consists of a case/power supply, mixer unit, and five modules, bass (kick), snare, and three toms, tuned high, mid and low. All five modules have four settings; a factory preset sound, a manual setting with controls for pitch, decay and so on, and two programmable settings adjusted using mini-pots.

The case is also fitted with two Simmons blanking plates for the two empty slots.

There are none of the optional fittings such as an external case or rack ears, and no mains lead.

The good news; all five audio modules have been tested in another system, and work well.

The bad news; the power supply doesn't work. It's a 110V system, but because it's fitted with a Europlug socket, I think it has been plugged into 240V mains and has blown..."
