OTO to Discontinue the Biscuit

via OTO Machines:

"Hi to all,

We are running out of stock of our 5th batch (1237 biscuits sold so far).

A new batch (250 units, maybe a little bit more) is planned for december.

This batch could be the last one because 2 essential electronic components are now obsolete. We are keeping a sufficient stock of these components for future maintenance. Designing a new board with newer components and doing all the industrial steps again is too expensive, considering the age of this product.

I think we will have enough Biscuits till spring or summer 2013. And if we can't find another source for these components, we won't build Biscuits anymore.

All the best,

Denis Cazajeux
OTO MACHINES"

The Biscuit is a digital effects processor/bit crusher, analog filter and synthesizer in one. It is one of my favorite pieces of gear in my studio.  See the dealers section on the right for shops that carry them.  You can still find them on eBay as well.

  1. I'm curious how you use yours? In what, of its many roles, does it find most use for you?

Although the combination of digital effects/synths with an analog filter does sound fun, at $600 it seems outrageously overpriced. (Though I thank them for putting that money into supporting MATRIXSYNTH!)

  2. It's all about sound. I use mine to process my synths. I just love the sound of it. The cool thing about it are the buttons and the modes. So instead of just using a knob to adjust the effect you can press the buttons to pop in different degrees of it. I don't think $600 is too steep considering the quality of the unit, analog filters, various effects and the fact that it can be turned into the Der OTO mono synth. Read up on the specs and compare it to value of other gear.
