"Korg EX-8000 Classic 8 voice digital/analog hybrid synth, stunning build quality inside and out and fat Analog VCFs and VCAs ! !

This is the 2U rack version of the famed and large ! DW-8000.

Dark, moody, and heavy are good ways to describe the sound. It has some beautiful crystal EP's, and can generate some truly ripping lead lines ( with the built-in digital delay ). Basically 16 DCO's, or single cycle waveforms, passed through a VCF and VCA. The Filter can self oscillate, and is one of the squelchiest around.

Two oscillators are used for each program, which results in a very fat sound. What's more, the programs can be set to Unison mode, which will fire all 16 oscillators slightly detuned, on each key-depression. In this mode the synth will be monophonic, but the effect is absolutely overwhelming!

The analog filter section is extremely powerful and smooth - probably one of the warmest sounding filters available on any synth. It can be driven into furious self-oscillation - great for those hardcore techno sounds!

The VCF is fully resonant, giving a gorgeous whistle at high settings and purring beautifully over low-pitched notes -- quite Moog-like, in fact.

You can create some warm strings and synth pads on the fly, and programming is a breeze. All of the parameters are on the front panel, so no real need for a manual but one is included.

Basses are probably one of the DW8000's strongest suits. The low end is generally thick and powerful and sits under a mix with confidence. Chunky mid-range sequence sounds are also particularly appealing, especially given a tweak of the data slider to modulate the filter as it plays. Lead patches are capable of both aggression and subtlety, as required. There are certain characteristically 'nasal' lead sounds that have never managed to be recreated on any other synth -- a kind of 'oboe on acid' for want of a better description.

In any instrument its the sound that counts. Korg’s EX-8000 has the technology to create the sound you’ve been looking for. Its called DWGS, or Digital Waveform Generator System. DWGS is based on real instrument sounds - recreated by additive harmonic synthesis - and stored in four 256Kbit ROM chips You have 16 waveforms to choose from, in each of two oscillator banks. Includes sawtooth, square and sine waves. At last you can gain the dynamic crispness of digital without sacrificing the warmth of analog. Mix and match waveforms. Detune to fatten the sound and build rich layered effects. Analog VCF and VCA parameters give you greater assurance of getting the sound you want. Built-in programmable digital delay, a worlds first, offers chorus, flanging, doubling, short and long delays of up to 512ms. All delay settings are programmable for storage with your 64 sound patches..."
