Kawai K4 & K4r iPad Editor

You'll find an editor for TB MIDI Stuff here, and a wireless editor for The Missing Link & TouchOSC here.

Note the TB MIDI Stuff template is saved under the "iTunes Documents Folder/Load Canvas Snapshots" in the app. If you find any bugs or have any questions, leave a comment in this post.

Enjoy! I always found the K4r a little cumbersome to edit via the front panel. The waveforms are not labeled so you have to refer to wave list print out. This editor will hopefully make things a bit easier for you and me. Remember to check the manual if you are unclear on what specific parameters do. I added a few notes, but did not want to bury the editor in descriptions.

1st five screenshots are TB MIDI Stuff, second five are TouchOSC.

  1. hi there! I dowloaded the TouchOSC version but I am unable to make it work, there seems to be no connection between the app and the synth. Any tips? Thanks!

  2. The TouchOSC one requires The Missing Link which is no longer made. The Missing Link was a wireless OSC hardware box that was able to convert OSC to MIDI. TouchOSC didn't support MIDI sysex messages which was needed for all the extra parameters so the template sent out OSC messages with the sysex messages wrapped in them. The Missing Link then converted that to sysex. What was great about it was that you could pop The Missing Link into your MIDI patchbay and then use the iPad with TouchOSC to edit your synths wirelessly. TB MIDI Stuff ported the template to their editor, so you can use that if you do not have The Missing Link.

  3. Hi, very excited that this came out on my birthday! Just getting to try it out.

I can get TB Midi to trigger notes on the k4 by using the built in keyboard controls so that midi seems to be transmitting. However I can't seem to get any of the K4 editor screens to have any affect on the sound. Does something need to be configured either in the k4 system settings or in TB Midi?

    Thanks!

  4. I just verified it works with my K4R. Make sure SYSTEM/MIDI on the K4 is set to SYS for sysex. Click on the System button to check. If it is set to SYS it could be that your cable does not support sysex. I believe the original Alesis IO Dock for example did not support sysex.
