Ensoniq VFX-SD synth demo, by Pulse Emitter

Published on Jan 31, 2014 Daryl Groetsch

"Ensoniq VFX-SD digital synthesizer, 1989. All sounds custom programmed and played live with no external effects. The VFX is pure magic. The tone majestic and expressive, colorful and ethereal. A rich and fibrous sound, more organic than most digital synths, with deep lows and crystal clear highs. And it can get pretty weird as well... It's not a typical sample-based synth because of the addition of something called "Transwaves" (oscillator waveforms whose shape can be modulated--it's Ensoniq's version of wavetable synthesis, see PPG, Waldorf, etc). This makes for sounds with as much motion and life as an analog synth but with far greater possibilities. Quite an underrated board. By the way, at 2:45 and 3:38 "ALL-WAVES" are used, which cycles through every waveform in the synthesizer.
