"Rare analogue filter module made as the perfect partner for the MPC 2000XL, but can be used with any sampler, synthesizer or other studio equipment (fits in a standard 19" rack).

It has a phono input stage so you can plug a turntable straight into it for sampling into old MPCs or other samplers... if only I'd owned this and my old 2000XL at the same time, I would never have let the 2KXL go!

It's an 8 Pole filter which can operate in stereo 2 or 4-Pole mode, or 2, 4 or even 8-Pole in mono. So when I used to plug this into an analogue monosynth, I ran it in 8-Pole mode for an extreme 8db per octave - in this extreme slope mode you can really twist sounds or make the purest, deepest bass without the volume loss shallower curves produce. Unlike some of the tamer filters built into a lot of synths and samplers, this one can be pushed all the way to extremes.

It's got that ability that a lot of old Akai filters have where you can low pass a sound and then add a little bit of resonance to fatten and warm up the bass... every other device I've tried this on seems to just give you a nasty obviously resonant sound you don't want on a low bass sound. If only I could find a plug-in that even comes close to recreating this.

Despite it's analogue signal processing, it's timing is digitally controlled. So you've got the convenience of tap tempo and midi sync to play with. The best fun I had with this was when I had it hooked up to my Minibrute, with both of them locked into a midi clock coming out of my computer or MPC... with everything locked together you could get the two devices LFOs working at different rates and make some amazing cross modulation sounds.

Before I owned this, I didn't really see the point of a separate filter module, but how wrong I was. Particularly with synths, their filter is most of their character. So a different filter is like half a new synth and not only do you have two characters to choose from, you also have the ability to combine those two characters and make many more from the juxtapositions you can find between them."
