Novation Circuit featuring OP-1 and Electribe in Hot Food - an improv jam
Published on Jun 11, 2016 Terrible Beat
"I put these devices on a table, plugged them in and proceeded to poke them in hope for some kind of musical response.
The Circuit was in sync with the Electribe (which was providing the drums). The OP-1 was used for sampling and noodling. The Circuit does all the bass, most melodies and even some beats.
They are all great devices. I rank them in the following order:
1. Teenage Engineering OP-1: An amazing fully featured music machine. So much fun.
2. Novation Circuit: So easy to get great ideas out of a few minutes of poking about. The visualisation of the sequencer and the automatible parameters make it a powerful inexpensive device.
3. Korg Electribe synth version: 16 channels to work with, lots of nice oscillators, and FX. Sequencer can be a bit too menu heavy when you want to get detailed. A jack of most trade, but I feel it's a master of none. I enjoy it, but the 2 devices mentioned above are far more fun to use.
