In Hinduism and Buddhism, rūpa means, in general, "material form." In the Pali Canon, it is expressed as three constructs: 1) rūpa-khandha – "material forms," 2) rūpa-āyatana – "visible objects," and 3) nāma-rūpa – "name and form" or "mind and body."
