OB-6: Distortion Illustration

Published on Sep 23, 2019 Kris Lennox

"Something for the Oberheim connoisseurs. Presently I'm working on a patch for a complex 6-voice piece that should be uploaded midweek. In the meantime, I thought I'd share a short illustration of the distortion on the OB-6. The distortion gets quite a bad rep - but whether it sounds good or not is more a matter of context. In this vid the dist is cranked to the maximum - which, if you ask around, is generally considered 'unmusical' and unworkable.

When in the specific context of drone, the distortion (at high levels) comes into its own. The OB-6 is in fact something of a drone machine (I'll upload some drone-style music in the coming months). Personally, I'd happily listen to slow filter sweeps across a chord for hours. It certainly has a sense of 'epic' to it.

PS try with headphones for the bass."
