Modal Skulpt: "Four by Fourteen" (+ Running Score)

Kris Lennox

"A while back I posted a piece on the OB-6, titled 'Six by Eighteen' i.e 6 voices, 18 beats in the bar. In this work, I'm embracing the 4-voice nature of the Skulpt, and writing in 14/16 time. Running score included to illustrate the 4 voices i.e if you can read music, you should be able to follow each line independently with the aid of the score.

Musically quite complex, in terms of rhythms. The central voices are playing a 4:3 Superparticular (i.e Geminus Sesquitertius).

In terms of the Skulpt: you're hearing 5 recordings. I made an initial recording with the Skulpt performing all 4 voices simultaneously (PS the Skulpt managed fine RE performing all 4 parts simultaneously), but from a compositional standpoint, it makes more sense to have a unique timbre for each voice. I re-recorded each voice (unison, as opposed to poly mode) with a unique timbre/patch I created.

The primary sound is still there - but part of the mix. However, everything you are hearing is the Skulpt (with the exception of standard production work i.e reverb, panning etc).

Enjoy/all best
Kris"
