David Cronenberg' Stereo | Live Soundtrack by Chinaski

Upcoming performance by supporting member, Chinaski.

"Guten Abend,

I’m proud to announce the Live-Premiere of my Soundtrack for David Cronenberg’s „Stereo“ on Oct 30th, 2021 at the DFF - Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum in Frankfurt am Main in cooperation with David Cronenberg himself and the DFF German Film Museum.

Due to the generally isolated feeling and creepy atmosphere during the first major lockdown an Idea I played with for a long time came back to my mind. Do a new Soundtrack. A film where a small group of people are under isolation in a Science Labor and experimenting with drugs - silently, only with voice-over commentary- I didn’t have any trouble to snatched into. Especially that Black and White brutalist World of David Cronenberg’s first featured movie.

Now the Soundtrack is finished and the movie will be screen with a 35mm copy at the Cinema of the DFF - Deutsches Filminstitut and Filmmuseum in Frankfurt am Main while I perform the music live.

David Cronenberg‘s movies are a huge influence for my own work since I saw The Fly the very first time as very young nerd in the german tv.

To have the opportunity to perform my music for the film with the blessing of David Cronenberg himself in that location is definitely a highlight in my life.

Stereo

Synopsis:
The future. The Canadian Academy fir Erotic Inquiry is investigating the theories of parapsychologist Luther Stringfellow. Seven young adults submit to a form brain surgery with remove their power of speech and increases their potential for telepathic communication. An unseen group of students observes the results. As the experiments progresses, Stringefllow’s theories are borne out. Later, aphrodisiacs and various drugs are introduced into the subjects’ diet in order to expose an inherent ‘polymorphous perversity‘. Finally, they are isolated from each other, provoking antagonism and violence between them, and two suicides.

Titel: Stereo
Year: 1969
Production company: Emergent Films
Producer, Director, Screenplay, Cinematography (black and white): David Cronenberg
65. mins, 35mm

Reception:
Constituting a one-man crew, Cronenberg shot Stereo (1969) in black and white without synchronized sound. This gambit was in part to avoid the noisiness of the Arriflex camera.
Voices-overs - representing the thoughts and unspoken communications of his characters, and bare narrative details - were added later. Unlike the commercial features, however, they were able strikingly to demonstrate a concern for architecture, and for tonal, almost abstract, composition. The uncluttered, pure images, combined with a separate soundtrack clotted with convincing scientific mumbo-jumbo ands philosophical musings, marked these early experiments as unique. - Chris Rodley"
