"The Synclavier II was used heavily by guitarists, back in the day, including Frank Zappa, Sting, Mark Knopfler, Pete Townshend, Chris Currell, Pat Metheny, and others.
Regen can be used in much the same way, and this video highlights two Guitar to MIDI options on the market today.
