"1978 Sankei TCH-8800 Organ Rhythm Drum Machine Radio Cassette Combo Japan RARE!
This one was relabelled as one of the last hurrahs for Webcor of 1950s and 60s tape recorder fame, and named The Music Machine.
Electronic organ and sound system made by Sankei Manufacturing Co Ltd, Japan, 1978.
A four-in-one electronic organ combination sound system consisting of electronic organ, automatic rhythm unit, cassette player, mixer, amp, and radio.
Comes with original speakers and metal tubular stand. Stand will be disassembled for shipping. Read below for more details on individual components.
Organ
All keyboard keys work. There is only one voice for the keyboard.
Rhythm Machine HAS PROBLEMS!!!All rhythm patterns do stuff individually, and they can also be stacked meaning you can use “Rock” and “Waltz” together or have any of these blended together simply by pushing the corresponding button. The buttons for each individual rhythm patterns are on/off; push down for on push again for off. All 5 rhythm patterns can be used simultaneously or in any manner with each other. There is a control for rhythm volume and also for rhythm tempo; both are working. HOWEVER, only "space sounds" come out (frequency is wayyyy to high for a "tempo"). The space sounds change pitch when the tempo is adjusted and timbre when different or more rhythms are selected. I do not believe this is factory - will need work. Probably a capacitor has failed, causing an interesting result in the circuit.
Radio
Radio section has FM and AM. Tuning indicator lights up. FM has stereo or mono switch. There’s also an ALC switch...not sure what that is.
FM channels come in strong. And stereo indicator lights up when stereo channel is dialed in.
AM works, too.
MIC Inputs
There are 2 MIC inputs at front left of unit. Microphone input was checked with a mic and is working fine. There is a MIC volume control above organ section to adjust MIC volume. There is only one MIC volume that controls both MIC inputs.
Headphone Jack
There is a headphone jack located at front left of unit. It is working fine.
Cassette Player
Cassette player was barely tested. Forward and FF work and spin capstan. Reverse does cause the left capstan to change its feel, but it doesn't spin. Loose belt? Eject button opens door. No audio testing done of cassette area. TLC needed.
Level Meters
Both level meters are working and needle bounces according to sound and intensity produced.
Speakers
Original Left and Right speakers included with attached cords. Both speakers are working. Speakers each have 2 thread bolts on back. I believe the speakers can be attached to the stand but I'm not sure how exactly. Extra hardware may be needed to attach speakers.
Stand
Metal tubular stand that screws to bottom of unit. Stand will be disassembled for shipping.
Aesthetic
The unit has some small tears on speaker grille as shown. The plastic looks beautiful and nearly new - some light scuffs. There is a heavy bracket inside the unit that seems to be for mounting it to the stand. The bracket is loose (see photo) and will be secured before shipping so it doesn't rattle. Ships in original box with original styrofoam spacers.
This is a pre owned, vintage, stereo organ combo unit that shows very little wear but is really old. This unit has been tested as described above. I have not tried the Phono or Aux settings but assume they are working but I cannot say for sure.
This is a Vintage unit with vintage components and I cannot guarantee any of these parts. I am not the original owner of this unit and do not know its past history. It is being sold as is.
Please note that this unit will probably need extra repairs to bring back to its full glory. Any future repairs will be the new owners responsibility.

'The Sankei TCH-8800 electronic organ is an early example of a domestic entertainment unit that incorporated functions that supported the growing trend towards karaoke. It provided an all-in-one unit to sing along to pre-recorded music through the machine using external microphones. Although karaoke appears to have developed in Japan during the early 1970s, it was not until the 1980s and 1990s that it became an extremely popular form of entertainment in Australia. This entertainment unit is significant as a relatively early piece (1978) of domestic electronic equipment that was available in Australia and which incorporated some karaoke-like functions.'"
