"1977 German-made analog string machine, the Hohner String Performer.
Excellent build quality and beautiful, rich sounding string machine. Sophisticated string synth. One of the last made.
A favourite of Moby and it's easy to hear (and see) why.

Sits in the mix very nicely, doesn't take over like with some stringers.
Fully serviced and calibrated. Working perfectly.
Some Details-
Sounds:
PIANO
CLAVINET
CELLO
VIOLA
VIOLIN
as full polyphonic sound sources. Addtionally a bass sound can be activated for the lower two octaves. The keyboard is split in two plus three octaves. And each half can get a unique combinations of the above named sounds.
At the right hand of the keyboard you can switch on one of the five avialble monophonic synth sound presets:
BASS
STRING
CLARINET
PLANET
OCTAVE (transposes all the sounds named before one octave down)
BASS, PIANO, and CLAVICHORD for both parts, as well as a monophonic synth for the upper part, consisting of preset sounds called BRASS, STRING, CLARINET and PLANET, with an octave button for transposing the solo synth one octave down.
Keyboard can be split in the middle so that you can adjust the volumes separately for the lower and upper part of the keyboard.
The sliders for adjusting the volume of each basic sound works upside-down, like drawbars, i.e. you pull the slider towards yourself for raising the volume of a sound.
Each sound can be muted with a corresponding button.
The Performer is built into a hard case to ease its transportation. The top lid is also built into the body, so you just flip the lid open when you want to start playing.
In the back there are the following sockets (left to right):
GENERAL out (= main out)
BASS out
STRINGS out
PIANO/CLAVINET/ SOLO (= mono synth) out
SUSTAIN PEDAL in
FOOTSWELL pedal in
MAINS in (the 110V versions appear to have an external power supply)
The ON/OFF switch is next to the mains in."
Amazing machine!
