Other people's GAS rarely smells as sweet.
ReplyDeleteThe Fizmo repertoir is not expandable but the MR series, which has the same guts as the Fizmo, is, with expansion cards. I had a Fizmo once and sold it. Now I have an MR Rack with an EXP-3 expansion card (and a D-EXP-1000 expansion card which is sort of custom experimental.) The MR has all of the transwaves of the Fizmo and half again as many others, and it has all the standard Ensoniq synth sounds. It is slightly more difficult to operate (three or more steps to save a sound instead of one) without the panel full of knobs. A Novation SL keyboard can be programmed to provide exactly the same control, for a much more powerful synthesizer than the severely overpriced Fizmo can ever hope to be.
ReplyDeleteThe Fizmo editing software works exactly the same for the MR series which also verifies they are the same synthesizer internally. Fizmo was, according to unsubstantiated rumor, supposed to have been a physical modeling synth, but Ensoniq ran out of money and they were desperate. Too little too late..
