"The Arturia Origin desktop Synth is literally a one of a kind very rare synth. What follows are answers to these iterations and explanations to the complexities and idiosyncrasies of the Origin.
1. In building the synthesizer, Arturia put virtually all their synthesizer and TAE (true analog emulation) technology, making it into both many and one instrument. The Origin not only gives you the latest sounds and sequences, it gives you powerful, easy to use tools for playing, combining, and controlling these dynamic sounds/sequences. All in real time, due to the amazing interface.
2. The Origin is a digital analog emulation, modular hardware synthesizer. The interface consists of 53 knobs, 81 buttons, one joystick, a value knob, and an informative backlit color LCD display. Origin makes it easy to modify the sound as you perform, and to have a versatile range of real time editing possibilities.
3. Origin contains 400 program presets and 600 user editable program presets. Each program consists of a group of virtually connected modules like oscillators, filters, mixers, envelopes, LFOs, etc. and connections routed to one or more of the up to 4 VCAs. This structure allows you to create incredibly rich sounds. Included is a step sequencer and an Arpeggiator, then connected to up to 3 effects slots. In addition, a Multimode allows you to stack up to 4 programs for layering sounds as well assign a MIDI channel for up to 4-part multitimbral operation.
4. TAE is Arturia’s technology dedicated to the digital reproduction of analog circuits used in vintage synthesizers. Implementing this into software code, TAE algorithms guarantee authentic emulation of hardware specifications. This is why the Origin offers an unparalleled sound quality. TAE combines 4 major advances in the synthesis domain.
5. The waveforms produced by the oscillators in analog synthesizers are marked by the presence of a capacitor in the circuits. TAE allows the reproduction of the capacitor discharge.
6. Advances in DSP processing power, the Origin can now employ direct filter modeling techniques to achieve unprecedented accuracy in the emulation of a hardware synthesizer filter. These filters produce the warm nuances common with analog sound.
7. The joystick controls up to 4 assignable parameters on its two W and X axes. In addition, the 3-mode buttons allow selection of one of 3 connection configurations for the joystick. The assign button directs you to the joystick assign page.
8. The “Analog” section contains all of the physical knobs and buttons you would find on any main analog synthesizer including oscillator knobs, filter knobs, LFO knobs, and envelope knobs.
9. There is a mixer section in which you can control the volume and the activity of the 4 “VCA” outputs of a program preset.
10. Next is an effects section and with it you can control the return volume and the activity of the 3 effect outputs of a program preset.
11. The Origin also includes a robust sequencer with many realtime sequencer controls. See manual for more.
12. The backside panel is filled with all the connections you will need to control other synthesizers with the Origin and control the Origin with other synthesizers.
13. The program preset uses a modular structure as the base of its synthesis. This modular structure allows you to easily create new and rich sounds, sequences, and effects. These program presets can be played by the step sequencer or the Arpeggiator and be connected to up to 3 effects slots. The modular synthesis structure is the main part of the Origin instrument, and you can access this area by pressing the edit button below the LCD screen. The modular synthesis structure allows you to venture into one of the most powerful technologies for sound design and creation. Modules include up to 9 oscillators, based on the mini Moog, ARP2600, CS-80, Jupiter-8, and Prophet VS synthesizers and one special Origin oscillator, up to 4 filters based on classic synthesizers, one ring modulator, one Bode frequency shifter, one Joy mixer, up to 4 mixers, up to 4 independent output amplifiers, up to 8 ADSR, and special IL-AR-ADR envelopes, up to 4 voice LFOs, one keyboard follower with 4 outputs, and 8 CV modulators.
14. The Origin comes with a model of the mini Moog with all its knobs and sliders and buttons to control. It also comes with the Jupiter-8, one of the most famous analog keyboards ever produced. Like the mini Moog, it comes with all the original controls to be played live on the screen of the Origin"
