The OBERHEIM TEO-5 is a huge analog polyphonic synthesizer in the vein of the golden age of American synthesizers. We're talking about the legendary original designer, and the same architecture and circuitry that sculpted thick, memorable lines of American analog polysynth in the 70s and 80s.

But a lot happened along the way for us to see the OBERHEIM TEO-5 in its full glory today. Today, OBERHEIM is a revered brand that has regained its status as a rightful contemporary of that golden age of synthesizers.

This sweeping instrument features the exclusive and visionary craftsmanship of Thomas Elroy Oberheim – TEO, hence the name of the device.

In its mission to make Oberheim's classic tone palette "widely accessible", TEO-5 encapsulates decades of analog engineering experience on a musical instrument that is "as innovative as it is visionary."

The five voices of pure analog electronics in the OBERHEIM TEO-5

After the golden signature in the form of an acronym, the suffix of the machine's name refers to its voice count. And that is because the OBERHEIM TEO-5 features a five-voice architecture, based on "genuine analog VCO and VCF".

Their goal is to capture the distinctive warmth and depth that defined the sonics of countless hit records of yesteryear.

But "TEO-5 isn’t just an homage to the past", they tell us from California. Additions like Through-zero FM (TZFM)—which lends a contemporary twist to the oscillator’s ‘X-Mod’ (or cross-modulation) functionality—allow for entirely new sonic textures to be explored.

And OBERHEIM TEO-5 also marks the return of the legendary SEM filter, which offers the versatility of morphing between low-pass, band-stop, and high-pass responses; add to that a switchable band-pass option for extensive tonal shaping.

Comprehensive modulation, effects, polysequencer, and premium FATAR keyboard

Beyond its core synthesis architecture, TEO-5 features a comprehensive modulation matrix, opening up a world of possibilities for sculpting and transforming sounds. And going further, digital effects processors provide chorus, delay, reverb and more classic programs, alongside faithful recreations of the revered Oberheim Ring Mod and Phasor effects.

A 64-step polyphonic sequencer and multi-mode arpeggiator onboard the OBERHEIM TEO-5 "further fuel creative exploration". And serious players will appreciate the provision of a premium Fatar keyboard that ensures a responsive and inspiring playing experience.

Remember our session with the colossal OB-X8? Well, that monster generated "a huge amount of interest when, in 2022, OBERHEIM returned with its historically inspired OB-X8", says CEO David Gibbons. "But Tom and his design team were also keen to prove that OBERHEIM magic can be made accessible to everyone, while still giving it a distinctive modern twist.
