"Quick demo of this pretty rare Japanese drum machine."

"Demo of the Hillwood Super Variation, a Drum Machine fro around 1977-79. Made by a Japanese company who apparently was a supplier for Roland until they decided to start their own product line in the market. Not much info around. The cool feature of the Super Variation is the metal bar on top, that allows you to switch the machine on and off. Has also quite slow rhythm speed. Other than slight EQ-boosting on the low end frequencies, no processing. Best listened to on good headphones or decent stereo equipment. Filmed on Fuji-XE2 with 4/9cm Leitz Elmar lens."

This is only the second post to feature a Hillwood HR-2.

"Fully service and sounding fantastic with a distinctive warm and woody tone.

An unusually versatile and well-programmed machine that never fails to delight.

Great range of patterns by engaging multiple presets and using the five voice cancel buttons.

Hillwood HR-2 Super Variation preset drum machine for sale serviced and in perfect working order.

It's got a distinctive warm and woody tone - the tone control allows for a good variation of timbres and dries/cleans things up nicely at the minimum treble setting.

A surprisingly wide range of beats/patterns are possible by engaging combinations of preset switches and deploying individual voice cancel buttons.

The 3/4 and 5/4 Jazz presets are especially rewarding in combination with others - an unusually versatile and well-programmed machine that never fails to delight.

The metal bar along the top front is an unlabelled start-stop control which can catch you out mid-performance if you've forgotten about it but is excellent for dropping hits in and out using a brief touch.

Condition: In excellent condition overall with very few noticeable marks to the front of the unit. The wooden casing has a few chips and dents but no serious damage. Please see photos or get in touch for more information.

Voltage Information: 100v Japanese model - it will run on North American mains 115/120v without a transformer (we run all our tests using 120v power); however, a step-down transformer is recommended for extended use. A step-down transformer is required in the UK/EU. We do not recommend using cheap generic Chinese mains transformers and can supply a high quality UK-made unit if required."
